Economics and Statistics

Objectives:

  • Collection, compilation and dissemination of statistical data from public and private data sources including State Income Estimates, Economic Census, Agricultural Census, Special Surveys, and Monthly Periodical Reports on the State’s economy.
  • To collect data on how the geographical land is being used under different classifications including irrigated area of different water sources, crop wise irrigated and un-irrigated area.

List of Ongoing Schemes

Crop Estimation Scheme

Under this scheme, yield estimation of paddy, small millets, groundnut, gingelly, sunflower, sugarcane, cotton, pulses is done by this department under crop cutting experiment of pre-assigned villages with the technical guidance of NSSO. The villages for crop cutting experiment selected by the Department of Economics and Statistics for specified crops and the crop cutting experiment being done by the Agriculture Department and it also being supervised by Agriculture Department, NSSO, Department of Economics and Statistics staffs is selected pre-assigned villages.

Prathan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)

Under this scheme, the crop cutting experiment in four fields in each of the notified villages in notified crops is being conducted.
The yield of crop cutting is being sent at the end of each season in notified units in notified crops to Department of Economics and Statistics in MDB file. The compilation work is being done in Department of Economics and Statistics, Chennai.

Crop Estimation Survey on Minor Crops

Under this scheme, yield is measured in selected minor crops (Chillies, Coriander, Tapioca, Cashewnut) in selected villages through oral enquiry at the time of harvest. The field is selected on the basis of random numbers.

Improvement of Crop Statistics

Under this scheme, the village Adangal records is being verified at the field level through azmoish in Kharif, Rabi, Summer seasons by this department. The Adangal pagewise total is verified with the village abstract given by the VAO.

Coconut and Arecanut Survey

To access the coconut production and its usage such as personal use, sales level, for oil purpose is being measured through oral enquiry at the time of harvest and one village per Block is allotted for this purpose by Department of Economics and Statistics.

Timely Reporting Scheme

Under this scheme 20% of villages allotted by Department of Economics and Statistics. In these villages 9 principal crops area is verified with the villages records at the end of Kharif, Rabi, Summer seasons and the same is sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics.

Market Surplus

Under this scheme, the paddy yield and retail details are being collected in pre-assigned villages of Divisional Assistant Director of Statistics, Deputy Director of Statistics. The Surplus of Paddy left with the Tiller after deducting wages, seed purpose, consumption and sales.

Block Statistical Handbook

Every year the details of Block such as Population, Agriculture Census, Educational Institutions, Hospitals, Post Offices is being collected by this department.

Municipal Handbook

Every year the details of Municipal such as Population, Agriculture Census, Educational Institutions, Hospitals, Post Offices is being collected by this department.

District Statistical Handbook

2018-2019
The detail of the District in specified tables is being collected by this department and is being published every year.

Housing Statistics(Public)

Under this scheme, the details of building started and completed/ not completed in the respective financial year and the ongoing building projects from previous years completed/ not completed is being collected in all the block and the report is sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics every year.

Housing Statistics (Private)

Under this scheme the building projects of private individual is received from the selected local bodies and details of projects is sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics for every financial year.

Wholesale Price Index

The whole price of selected products in selected industries in specified measure is collected and sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics every month.

Handloom Statistics

Under this scheme 20 handloom weavers family is selected every year. The production details and the standard of living is being collected and sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics once in every three months.

Market Intelligence Retail & Wholesale Prices

Under this scheme the price particulars of products is being collected every day and is being sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics of certain consumer goods is also sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics.

Rainfall Statistics

The details of all Rain gauge station in this district is collected, compiled and is sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics

Agriculture Wages

The Agriculture Wages details is being collected every month in one village in each block selected for this purpose by Department of Economics and Statistics.

National Sample Survey

Under this scheme villages have been selected by Government of India to ascertain the details required for the Government of India every year. In this district 12 villages have been randomly selected and allotted the staff of this department will collect the details required and the same sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics. Likewise the same number of villages also allocated to NSSO by Government of India and their staff also do that same in this regard. This is useful for formulation of welfare policy by the Government.

Fruits and Vegetables Scheme

Under this scheme villages have been allotted by Department of Economics and Statistics to ascertain details of Production of Jackfruit in this District. Certain villages have been randomly selected and allotted by Department of Economics and Statistics in this regard and the staff of this department randomly selects two gardens in each villages. The details of the yield are being collected at harvest level and the same is sent to Department of Economics and Statistics.

Sustainable Development Goals

Under this scheme details for 104 District Indicators and 93 Block Indicators have been collected  as monthly, quarterly, half yearly, yearly, once in two years and once in three years from various departments and the same uploaded periodically in the Department Software concerned.
