Scholarship Schemes

Pre-matric scholarship scheme

No fee (Tuition fee/ special fee/ examination fee) is collected from the students studying in TamilMedium in Government and Government Aided Schools. The Government have completely waived the payment of tuition fee for the students studying in English medium from standard 6th to 10th in Government and Government aided schools.

Exam Fees Reimbursement

The Examination Fee for the English Medium students studying in 10th standard in Government and Government Aided Schools is reimbursed in full to the Directorate of Government Examinations for BC, MBC & DNC students with the following conditions.

Conditions

  • Backward Classes – parental annual income should not exceed of Rs. 2.50 lakhs.
  • Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities –No Condition

Post-matric scholarship scheme (School students)

Under Post-matric scholarship scheme, examination fees for the Backward Classes students studying in 11th and 12th standards in English medium in Government and Government Aided schools are being reimbursed. This is subject to the condition that their annual parental income should not exceed Rs.2.5 lakh. For Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities students examination fee is reimbursed without any condition. The Government has waived the payment of tuition fee and special fee to the students studying in Tamil and English medium in Government and Government Aided schools. The examination fee for 11th and 12th standard Tamil medium students has also been waived.

Post-matric scholarship scheme (College students)

Under Post matric scholarship scheme, scholarships are sanctioned to Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities students studying ITI,Diploma in Polytechnics, Post Graduate, Professional and Ph.D. courses. Annual parental income should not exceed Rs.2.5 lakh to avail this scholarship. Under the scheme, tuition fee and special fee are sanctioned as fixed for the Government educational institutions. Examination fee is sanctioned in full and book money as notified in the scholarship notification. Students studying in the second shift in Government and Government aided colleges are also sanctioned scholarship by applying the same conditions stipulated for students studying in the morning shift. In addition to the scholarship amount, boarding and lodging charges are sanctioned to students who are staying in hostels attached to educational institutions, at the enhanced rate of Rs.4000/-per year (Rs.400/- per month for 10 months in a year) for under Graduate courses, Professional Courses, ITI / Diploma and Post Graduate courses from the year 2021-22.

Free Education Scheme

Degree courses

Under Free Education scholarship (Degree) scheme, students of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities studying in three year Degree Courses in Government and Government Aided Arts and Science colleges are sanctioned special fee and non-refundable compulsory fee as prescribed by the Government (Tuition fee of students studying in three year Degree Courses in Government and Government Aided Arts and Science colleges has been waived). Book money is sanctioned as notified in the scholarship notification and examination fee in full. This scholarship is sanctioned without any condition. In addition to the scholarship amount, boarding and lodging charges at the enhanced rate of Rs.4000/- per year (Rs.400/- per month for 10 months in a year) are sanctioned to students who are staying in hostels attached to educational institutions from the year 2021-22.

Diploma courses

Under Free Education scholarship (Diploma) scheme, students of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities studying Diploma courses in Government and Government Aided Polytechnic Colleges are sanctioned tuition fee, special fee and non-refundable compulsory fee as prescribed by the Government. Book money is sanctioned as notified in the scholarship notification and examination fee in full. This is subject to the conditions that the annual parental income should not exceed Rs.2,50,000/- and the beneficiary should be the first diploma holder/graduate in the family. In addition to the scholarship amount, boarding and lodging charges at the enhanced rate of Rs.4000/-per year (Rs.400/- per month for 10 months in a year) are sanctioned to students who are staying in hostels attached to educational institutions from the year 2021-22.

Professional courses

Under Free Education scholarship (Professional) scheme, students of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities selected under Government quota through single window system and pursuing Professional Courses in Government, Government aided and self financing colleges, are sanctioned special fee and non-refundable compulsory fee as prescribed by the Government. Book money is sanctioned as notified in scholarship notification and examination fee in full. This is subject to the conditions that the annual parental income should not exceed Rs. 2,50,000/- and the beneficiary should be the first graduate in the family. In addition to the scholarship amount, boarding and lodging charges at the enhanced rate of Rs.4000/-per year (Rs.400/- per month for 10 months in a year) are sanctioned to students who are staying in hostels attached to educational institutions from the year 2021-22.

Web enabled sanction of scholarship

Sanction and disbursement of scholarship to the college students of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities is implemented through the web application www.bcmbcscholarship.tn.gov.in. Scholarships are directly credited into the students’ bank account through ECS by the respective Heads of the Department adopting centralized payment system.

How to Apply for Post-Matric Scholarship for Colleges

BC, MBC & DNC College students can collect their BC, MBC & DNC Scholarship application from their Institutions and submit the duly filled in applications with the relevant documents to the Institutions. Scholarships to students studying in Central Government Institution like IIT, IIM, IIIT, NIT and Central Universities

The Government of Tamil Nadu have issued orders for granting scholarship from the year 2019-20 to native of Tamil Nadu students belonging to BC/MBC/DNC communities who are pursuing UG/PG Courses in Government of India instituitions like IIT, IIM, IIIT, NIT and Central Universities with the following conditions.

Conditions

  1. The student should belong to Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes or Denotified Communities.
  2. The student should be a native of Tamil Nadu.
  3. The student should be pursuing UG/PG courses in IIT, IIM, IIIT, NIT and Central Universities.
  4. The annual family income should not exceed Rs.2.50 Lakh.
  5. The scholarship amount will be reimbursed to the student every year for the entire duration of their UG/PG Courses.
  6. The reimbursement will cover Tuition Fee, Special Fee, Exam Fee, other compulsory fees as prescribed by the Institution or Rs. 2.00 lakh per year whichever is lesser.
  7. If more number of applications are received, eligible students will be shortlisted as per the marks secured by them in plus two public exam.

How to apply

The eligible and willing students are requested to fill the applications forms and submit the filled application to the institutions and send the filled application with the concurrence of the Principal of the Institutions with all enclosures to the under mentioned Directorate.

7.5 % Reservation in MBBS / BDS Courses

The Postmatric Scholarship pertaining to Govt School Students who are admitted in MBBS /BDS courses under 7.5 % reservation are reimbursed to Directorate of Medical Education.

Students Hostels

In line with the efforts for achieving social justice hostels are run by this Department. These Hostels target the students belonging to Economically Weaker Sections of the BC, MBC, DNC and Minorities and provide free food and accommodation, thereby, helping them to continue their education without any hassle.

Eligibility criteria

School Hostel
  1. Students studying in classes from 4th Standard to 12th standard.
  2. Annual Parental income should not exceed Rs.2,00,000/-.
  3. The student should be residing at a distance of more than 8 Kilometers from the educational institutions. (This condition is not applicable to Girl Students.)
College Hostel
  1. Students studying in Diploma, U.G/ P.G. courses.
  2. Annual Parental income should not exceed Rs.2,00,000/-.
  3. The student should be residing at a distance of more than 8 Kilometers from the educational institutions. (This condition is not applicable to Girl Students)

  • Students seeking admission in BC/MBC/DNC Hostels can submit their certificates of annual parental income and community after getting admission into the hostel. They need not submit the same along with application.
  • 4% of seats are allotted in each hostel to accommodate differently abled students.
  • 5 additional seats have been sanctioned in all hostels, in addition to the sanctioned strength to accommodate the children of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees who reside in camps.
  • Rescued bonded labour children are admitted in the hostels at any time without any conditions till they complete their course.
  • In order to accommodate children of labourers originally from Tamil Nadu and currently working in plantations in Tamil Nadu – Kerala border adjacent to Theni district have been exempted from producing community and income certificates. They are admitted into BC/MBC/DNC hostels situated in Theni District based on self-declaration of their parents.

Egg / Banana(School and College Hostels)

  • Along with the daily menu, Egg is provided to the students for 5 days in a week for 20 days in a month.

Facilities available for hostel students

  1. Two Tamil and one English newspapers are provided for each hostel.
  2. Career guidance programmes are conducted to create awareness among the 10thstd, 12thstd and college hostel students about various job opportunities available. Every year, this Career Guidance programme is conducted through Employment and Training department.
  3. Special guides are provided free of cost to the boarders studying in 10th and 12th standard to improve their performance in public examinations.
  4. The boarders of hostels studying upto XII standard are supplied with all text books free of cost by the Department of School Education.
  5. Four sets of uniforms are given to the hostel boarders studying from IV to X standard, as per the colour and pattern adopted under Nutritious meal scheme from the year 2013-14.
  6. Colour television, play materials, water purifier, book shelves, wet grinder, steam based cooking boilers, mixer-grinder,napkin incinerator, fire extinguishers, idly steamer, library books and electric insect destroyer are supplied to the hostels. In addition, inverter, reference books and two tier bunk cots are supplied to the college hostels.
  7. Stainless steel plates and tumblers are provided to all hostel boarders. Woolen sweaters are provided to the boarders of hostels located in hill stations. The following benefits are also given to the hostel boarders.
    • Mats are provided to school hostel boarders every year.
    • Jamakkalam are provided to first year college boarders every year.
    • Bedsheets are provided once in two years for both school and hostel boarders.
  8. Three medical checkup camps are conducted for all hostel boarders and Kallar Reclamation School students every year.

Boarding Grants

Boarding Grants are given at the increased rate of Rs.1000/- per month for 10 months to the BC, MBC / DNC Students staying in Government approved Private Hostels. (w.e.f. 1.1.2021)

Rural Girls’ Incentive Scheme

(Most Backward Classes and Denotified Community girls only)

Incentive

Rs.500/- per annum for the girl students of Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities and studying in 3rd Std to 5th std. Rs.1000/- per annum for 6th Std.

Eligibility

  • Parental income limit is increased as Rs.1,00,000/- per annum w.e.f. 2021-22.
  • Students studying in Government / Government Aided schools in Rural areas.
  • For those belonging to MBC /DNC only.
  • Preference will be given to Girl Children of Widows / Destitutes.

Distribution of Free Bi-Cycles

Details of Distribution of Free Bi-Cycles

Bicycles are supplied to 11th standard students of Government, Government aided and partially aided schools irrespective of income and community.

Eligibility

  • Should be the Students (Boys & Girls) of +1 in Government, Government aided and partially aided school (this concession is applicable to the Free bus pass holders also.)
  • No other condition to avail this concession.
  • Students staying in the Hostels situated in the School premises are not eligible for getting free bi-cycles.

For the economic advancement of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities, iron boxes and motorised sewing machines distributed free of cost by this Department. Loans are provided through TABCEDCO and TAMCO for various income generating activities.

  • Beneficiary should belong to BC/MBC/DNCs and doing laundry work.
  • Parental income limit is increased as Rs.1,00,000/- per annum w.e.f. 2021-22

  • Both Male and Female shall eligible for apply.
  • Those who already availed benefit under this scheme shall also apply after completion of 7 years.

Distribution of Free House Site Pattas

People should not have own house or house site and should belong to BC,MBC and DNC. Parental income limit is increased as Rs.1,00,000/-per annum w.e.f. 2021-22.

Denotified Communities Welfare Board

The registered members of the Denotified Communities Welfare Board are provided with various welfare assistances as provided to the members of the Welfare Boards for un-organized labours functioning under the administrative control of Labour and Employment Department.
For getting the assistance, filled in applications should be submitted with relevant evidences to the respective District Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Officers.

To implement various welfare schemes to the people belonging to Valayar, Amblakarar (including Servai) communities, the Government issued orders to established Valayar, Amblakarar (including Servai) Reclamation Board.

Tamil Nadu Narikoravar Welfare Board

The registered members of the Tamil Nadu Narikoravar Welfare Board are provided with various Welfare assistances as provided to the members of the Welfare Boards for unorganized Labours functioning under administrative control of Labour and Employment Department and subsidy is also given for self employment.
For getting the assistance, the registered Members of the Tamil Nadu Narikoravar welfare board have to submit the filled in application with all the relevant documents to the District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Officer concernedfor getting the above assistance.

Tamil Nadu Vanniyakula Kshatriya Public Charitable Trusts&Endowment Board

To identify and integrate various charitable trusts bequeathed by the Vanniyar philanthropists and to find ways and means to fulfill the objectives of the trusts the Government had formed the Vanniyar Public Property Welfare Board in the year 2009.
To safeguard the properties of such trusts and endowments created by persons or organizations of Vanniyakula Kshatriya Community anAct namely “The Tamil Nadu Vanniyakula Kshatriya Public Charitable Trusts and Endowments (Protection and Maintenance) Act 2018” has been enacted. The Act came into force on 04.02.2019.
As per the provisions of the Act, the Government have established Tamil Nadu Vanniyakula Kshatriya Public Charitable Trusts and Endowments Board with a Chairperson and 10 members. A Member-Secretary and two ex-officio members also been appointed to the board. During the year 2020-2021 Rs.1 crore has been sanctioned to the board for administrative expenses. The board has so far identified 119 trusts. Of this 64 trusts have been registered under the board. The properties of the 17 registered trusts have been published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette as per section 5 of the Act.

Thanthai Periyar Award for Social Justice

The Government is honouring those who made outstanding contribution for social justice in Tamil Nadu with Thanthai Periyar Award for social justice every year. The awardee is selected by the Hon’ble Chief Minister every year. The award carries a gold medal of 1 sovereign and a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh which has been enhanced to Rs.5.00 Lakh from the year 2021-22.
